The Terminale OIB Group (68 pupils in all) set off for Lion-sur-Mer from 5th-8th May, our second year there. We stayed at the château near the beach, run by UNCMT.

History-Geography went first, with Ross Black, Darren Griffiths, Cindy Plecko and Peter Rist taking the students through the programme. Intensive revision was the order of the day, punctuated by quick breaks and beach games on the sand nearby.

The watch was taken over by English next with Betty Lau, Ben See, Ruairi McCann and myself revising all the texts, both written and oral. “There’s nothing either good or bad but thinking makes it so” is a Hamlet quotation I’m fond of, and here, I feel sure, we all thought it was all pretty good. There was a lot of hard work and the students remained very focused for the four days.

Luckily the weather was very pleasant, so there was Tai Chi class at 7h30 each morning, “paddling” in the sea on a number of occasions and in the evenings, singing on the promenade and a pizza-surprise on the final evening.

Unfortunately, Judy Cellier, the organiser of the trip couldn’t be there with us, though she was very much present in spirit. It was beautifully organised and very positive from all points of view. The manager of the centre told me as we were leaving that he had never come across a group of “ados” so mature and so “sympa”.
