On March 16th, Mr Tidmarsh was physically aggressed and brought savagely down.
The (plastic spring-assisted) knife, plunged into Mr Tidmarsh’s back by Mr Black, history teacher at the college and lycée, was of course the reenactment of Caesar’s assassination during the Ides of March.
P4 children had researched the Ides as part of their Roman project, and came to school dressed in togas for the occasion. After a rousing ‘Party Like a Roman’, sung for the rest of the school, out rushed ‘Brutus’ and the bloody deed was done. After the ‘ghost of Caesar’ had surprised the crowd by raising himself and miraculously walking, ‘Brutus’ was taken upstairs to a press conference, where he was questioned by our budding P4 journalists. Questions came thick and fast, and ranged from “How does the Republic gain from Caesar’s death?” to “Why are you wearing black trousers?”.

A big ‘Thank you’ to Ross Black, for generously giving us his time and sharing his expertise in the ‘hot seat’. The children will not forget this history lesson in a hurry.
Examples of the finished news reports will be found in the forthcoming ’Prime Times’ magazine.
