Welcome to all new pupils and their parents ! All pupils must buy and work through the books below during the summer vacation. Keep notes on your books. There will be an important test on your reading at the Rentrée.

Entrée en 3ème en sept 2012
- The Help (Kathryn Stockett),
- Extremely loud and Incredibly close (Jonathan Safran Foer)
Entrée en 4ème en sept 2012
- Kiss Kiss (Roald Dahl)
- A Tree grows in Brooklyn (Betty Smith)
Entrée en 5ème en sept 2012
- The Other side of Truth (Beverly Naidoo)
- Feather Boy (Nicky Singer)
Entrée en 6ème en sept 2012
- Goodnight Mister Tom (Michèle Magorian)
- The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas (John Boyne)
- Oxford Spelling Book 5 (Oxford University Press). To be completed with parental help, and all mistakes corrected before the new term begins.
All pupils (already in SIS) with an average of less than 13 in English will also have to do some grammar work this summer. Those families concerned will be receiving letters after the conseils de classe/ 3e trimestre.
New pupils coming into the sections should brush up grammar skills by completing the following short workbooks :
- Common Mistakes at PET for 5ème pupils
- Common Mistakes at FCE for 4ème and 3ème pupils (both Cambridge University Press)
Englishpage.com is very useful for revising grammar. Please look at the website over the summer and brush up on your tenses if necessary. All pupils must have a combined Dictionary & Thesaurus (such as Collins) at home.
GENERAL
You MUST get into the habit of reading regularly : articles, stories, novels, travel writing etc. Please do NOT leave your reading to the last week. Try to make notes or underline as you go. Books can be ordered from Amazon.com or WH Smith (Paris) 0144778899
You might also enjoy Vocable, a magazine of newspaper articles from the Anglophone press, such as The Guardian and The New York Times. Each article is accompanied by a full glossary.
