The SEL in February was the setting for the English Language Department’s annual festival, the School Play, with over 100 participants: actors, musicians and stage hands from 5ème to Terminale - not to mention a gaggle of parents in the “admin” roles.
This year, Paddy Salmon with a little help from Will Shakespeare gave us a “Midsummer Night’s Virtual Reality”. The play started with a touch of reality (the computer program breaking down!) and moved rapidly into a world of fantasy and fairies, of nobles and mechanicals, of young lovers and irate fathers, of dreams and disillusion, of a bemused teacher and her class caught up in all this and finally sorted itself all out with a happy ending.
The enthusiasm of the players, the pleasure of the audience - parents, teachers and pupils - mixed with the few well-chosen words from Ellen Fournier and Jacques de Mouzon showed the spirit of the Sections and made us all impatient for next year’s production.
“Chapeaux” and a big thank-you to Paddy, Pat, Vicki, Ben and Brian.
