FAQ

Practical information

  • I’m in high school, I want to attend the SIS at the Lycée de Sèvres but I live abroad. How can I find somewhere to live?

We can put you in contact with families whom we know. We have several high school students studying in the Sections in this way every year and it has always been a very positive experience. This is an example of the lodgings that are available: >>

  • Are there two form/homeroom teachers for each class, due to the two languages ?

No, there is only one form teacher per class, who could be the sports, French or any other teacher. The international teachers cannot be form teachers because they never teach the entire class.

  • Recess: Are the pupils of the lycée (last three years) in the same playground as the younger children?

No, the lycée is on a different "campus" from the other schools.

  • Absent teachers: What happens when a teacher is absent ?

There are four possibilities:

  • a substitute teacher is provided;
  • the students go into another SIS group which has a class at the same time;
  • the students are sent to a supervised study period (permanence);
  • students start school later if the class is first thing in the morning, or leave earlier if the class is the last in the day.
  • Does a pupil need to tell the school that he/she is leaving early when a teacher is absent?

At the Collèges the gates are supervised. The supervisor is informed when a teacher is absent and he only lets pupils who have parental authorisation leave. (This authorisation is signed in the correspondence book at the beginning of the year, but can be changed during the year.)

At the Lycée students may come and go freely. However, all students absences, when the teacher is present, must be justified!

  • Is 6ème the first year of secondary school ?

Yes. You may check our level equivalence table

  • Is there a place where we can get started on our homework?
JPEG - 13.7 kb
Le CDI inter du collège de Sèvres

Yes, the ‘inter’ library in the Collège at lunchtime. Children also often help each other with their homework at breaktime. Our advice is not to get behind and do as much as possible at the weekend!

The CDI du lycée is also a great place to work. Take advantage of it.

  • I am going into high school and I hope to study abroad. How can I obtain information on the British universities which interest me?

Meetings to present British, American and German universities are organized each year. How to enter these universities is also explained during these meetings. You can also find out more about what to do "after the bac" by clicking here >>.

  • As a parent, how can I become more involved in the SIS and my children’s school?

The SIS always need more volunteers! We have a dynamic and friendly group of volunteers who help out in many areas. Come meet and exchange with parents like yourself who are facing the challenges of bringing up children in a multi-cultural environment. For more information >>

There are two main French parent associations active in the schools that SIS students attend. To learn more about the system and how to get involved >>
