Portes Ouvertes à Chaville, le 9 juin

By Pat Short

The Portes Ouvertes Day at Chaville College Jean Moulin on Saturday 9th June 2007 was enjoyed by all.

International pupils brought their parents to the SIS room to show them all the colourful displays on the walls, and especially to show off their own English and History/Geography work, all of which was available for inspection or simply perusal. Display folders and reading logs were consulted ; a “Monopoly” History game was played by those interested.

Roles changed : pupils enjoyed having to explain what parents didn’t understand about English or History/Geography for a change !

The volunteer librarians were especially pleased to see the latest purchases made for the pupils’ library ; approximately 30 new books to suit all tastes have been added to the CDI international section.

Copies of the Wandering Quill, the SIS literary magazine, were sold and a selection of the dvds available to members of the Film Club attracted much interest.

Every available inch of wall space was covered with History/Geography and English projects, posters on the exchange with Scarborough and the trip to York, and various pieces of creative work by pupils. All of this attracted the attention not only of SIS parents but also of curious non-international parents too.

The highlight of the morning, particularly for 6eme family members, was the play staged with such aplomb in the Salle Vercors. This was a resounding success. The audience understood the humour of the production, and appreciated the very talented performances of the 6eme actors and actresses. Congratulations to all those involved.

A lot of hard work went into preparing this day and special thanks goes to the teaching team at Chaville (Vicki, Judy, Michele and Pat) and to Paddy Salmon (Head of English SIS) and Bertrand Devillers (President du Conseil d’Administration), both of whom were present on the day and available for questions from interested parties.

Well done everyone !
