Trips, Visits and Events

OIB Revision, La Baule, 10-13 May 2005

by Diane Robat

We have just returned from an excellent and very productive revision trip to La Baule. Forty-four students and their Terminale teachers(Paddy Salmon, Ben See, Brian Brazeau, Diane Robat, Cindy Plecko, Darren Griffiths, Ross Black and Peter Rist) enjoyed bracing sea breezes and “youth-hostel” accommodation, both being most conducive to hard work and excluding any tendency to laze-about !!

Several students let me have their observations which I include for your perusal.

  • “In a serene, but studious atmosphere, the Revision Trip gave all students a concise and precise overview of the year’s History, Geography and English lessons. The Revision Trip was not only a great stop on the road to academic success, but also a great bonding experience between students, teachers and most surprisingly footballers! Many students wanted to stay longer and thought it would be a good idea to come twice a year.”
  • “The Revision Weekend, although intensive, was very successful in many ways. The isolation, away from school, family and other attractions was a major factor. The teaching sessions closed gaps occasioned by complications during the year. We also gained confidence, which counteracted the growing stress of our first major exams. Living as a group also contributed to an exchange of ideas. This trip was also a great occasion for us to celebrate our last moments in the Sèvres community”
  • “The Revision Trip combined fresh air and intensive work. We worked 8 hours a day but it wasn’t too much. We had enough spare time to visit La Baule, play on the beach and improve our babyfoot skills!

The working hours were really productive and allowed us to really understand how to present the Bac. Our group was great, the teachers too, the meals weren’t as satisfactory! We all thought that it should have lasted longer, for it was a very constructive and valuable experience. It is an ideal way to prepare for the exam. We would like the French teachers to do the same thing!”

  • “The Revision Trip was rather like being in a boarding school. The days were strictly planned out. We worked over 8 hours daily. Many of us think that our marks would have been higher this year had we had such a quiet and structured learning environment. We would like to be able to get far away to revise, twice a year;”

Many students came and thanked the teaching team for their help. We were delighted by their pleasant and mature behaviour.
