The Australian student reports

My Two Months in Paris

By Ilsa Melchiori

When I get back to Australia people will ask me “what I got up to on the holidays?” and “how was it?” I shall reply, “I spent two months in Paris and it was bloody amazing!”

I really couldn’t have asked for a better exchange experience. Living just outside of Paris meant that when I had spare periods at school I could jump on a train, and in 20 minutes, be in the centre of one of the most amazing cities in the world. A city full of incredible old buildings, hundreds of art galleries and some of the best shopping in the world!

I found the way of teaching at Sevres is very different to MLC, as well as the relationship between teachers and the students. There are also other differences, what with Sevres being co-ed, not having a uniform and providing a hot lunch for each student.

My exchange partner (Clemmy) and her family where all really nice and made sure that I saw not only Pairs but also the south of France and even England. In Australia I live 50 minutes from the city and I rely heavily on my family to drive me places, so I’ve really enjoyed the change of living in the suburbs and being able to get public transport.

I really have had an amazing time; I’ve met heaps of new people and made some new friends!
