The Exchange to France has been a rewarding experience.
Not only did my understanding of French improve, but I learned the French way of thinking.
Australia is a fairly young country, having just recently celebrated the centenary of our Federation. This means that we don’t have the immense history, or big beautiful old buildings that appear on every corner here in Paris.
I found school here very different to in Australia. It seems more pressing on the students, and the days are longer. At my school, we only go from 8:30am until 3:30pm, and no Saturdays!
My family here has been wonderful. They have taught me about the French way of life, and also about the food. I have developed a certain addiction to Roquefort, and I am beginning to appreciate the delicacies of France.
My host father is an especially good cook, so I have been eating delicious food. My younger host brother is a soccer fanatic, and was delighted when he learned that I too like soccer.
My host mother was also lovely, knowing all the funky boutiques in Paris. The friendship I made with my exchange partner is very important and special to me. I hope that our friendship will last into our adult lives, and that we will meet again in the future.
The bonds I have made and the opportunities created by going on the exchange have made missing a beautiful Australian summer worth it!
