The Anglophone primary section has undertaken to help a school in a slum area of Antananarivo, the capital of Madagascar.
Working with an NGO called Enfance Espoir (recognised by both the French and the Malgash governments) http://www.enfance-espoir.org/index... SIS aim to supply desks, benches and cupboards to the currently desperately underequipped classrooms in an area stricken with poverty.

Presented recently, the project is being studied by SIS primary children who are coming up with some of their own ideas of ways to raise funds. At the moment, there are two main ways in which to help ;
1. Give a pen, pencil or notebook.
There will be a collection box at Gambetta each Wednesday morning for children to drop off any item of stationery they want to give. Integrated students can give things directly to their English teacher. These gifts will be taken to Madagascar at the end of January by the NGO Enfance Espoir. We have also been asked for any old copies of ‘J’aime lire’ which might be lying around your homes.
2. Donation or Contribution certificates.
Available in the office or from Mrs Bennitt at the email address
A donation certificate costs €30 and will pay for one wooden desk and bench. A contribution certificate costs anything between €5 and €29 and will go towards the purchase of furniture for the school. If you buy a certificate by cheque (made payable to Enfance Espoir (Madagascar)) the NGO will send you a receipt as your donation is tax deductible.
Your generosity has already helped raise the following funds ;
€1080 (donation cheques)
€353 (sale of Christmas cards, hand-made by our own primary students)
€135 (P6 bakesale)
We will continue our fundraising throughout the school year as the Ecole de l’Espoir needs lighting, blackboards and cupboards once we have provided all the tables and benches.
We really are very grateful to all of you who have contributed to this project.
