Life Down Under
Let there be Tim Tams!
By Louise Blum & Marjolaine Clough (Coomoora exchange)
It’s not just the Australian brilliant landscapes that we have discovered this summer in Australia, it’s also:
- The gold coast, surfer’s paradise ( alias “surfers’”), long walks on the crunchy sand, wind blowing in our faces, dumping waves, a “cold” winter (20 degrees at least)
- Brisbane’s south bank, the river separating it from the city
- Mount Cootha, offering a breath taking view of Brisbane.
- Aussie sports, AFL games (Australian football league, game you will not see here in Europe), touch ball, Australian tag, football (alias rugby), “footy” games, The Brisbane stadium: Brisbane Broncos Vs Titans(Broncos won!!),
- Twisties, TIM TAMS (scrumptious chocolate coated biscuits, with chocolate cream oozing out of it with every bite) , morning tea at 10a.m (when most girls ate their lunches), brownies at afternoon tea at 6 p.m. just before dinner, meat pies, lamingtons, the school tuck shop(their cantina!).
- Movie world, wonder woman, cat woman, batman, the superman ride, lethal weapon, loony toons.
- Australia zoo, Steve Erwin’s passion for wild life, “crikey!”, koalas, kangaroos, colossal crocodiles (“croc’s”), wombats, Tasmanian devils.
- The Sunshine coast, Mooloolaba, Under Water World, meandering through dark galleries, under a shark aquarium, the seal show.
- School uniforms! The hat, the tie...Somerville school’s houses (Franklin, Chisholm, Mc Arthur...). Assembly, where the whole school meets (this means a hall full of girls in blue uniforms!) to discuss matters and sing hymns. The athletics carnival, sprinting (dressed up of course) with trained girls on 400 metres! - The school rugby dance. Dress code: striped, fluo and freaky!
- Sydney, the opera house, real winter weather, rain! Harbour bridge.
- The Australian bush, the family ranch, kangaroo hunting, the rooster’s cry at 4a.m.
- Australian Hospitality
- A whole new culture
- New friends...
