Par Tarek Austin (OIB 2008)
I was at Sèvres from the 6ème and didn’t regret one bit of the experience. The place feels like something more than a mere school ; not a home, but something in between. I’m a great fan of classical and ragtime music on the piano, and an avid tennis player if you take away the aggressive competitiveness !
I discovered new aspects of my personality at the SIS, whether it be through a variety of roles in the PLAY or with The Wandering Quill magazine (yes, at Sèvres you can be a scientist and a literary publisher as long as you’re willing to stay around at 5 pm on Wednesdays..)
My best memory was probably looking over the final draft of the fourth edition of The Wandering Quill, around 1 am, yet with a rush of anticipation, enthusiasm and pride to contribute thus to the school and reveal the talent of its young thinkers. My only criticism might be of the painful process of addressing fundamental questions on major historical issues that require days of reflection and pages of writing, in one-to-two hour synthetic essays – but that process is inherent to the baccalaureat format of course.
At Harvard I intend to broaden my perspectives much in the same way as I have done spontaneously at the SIS thanks to the numerous opportunities provided to us.
| It is said that the true experience of Harvard resides in the people you meet there. I would like to say that is certainly the case at Sèvres, students and teachers alike. |
