Life Down Under

In Australia, everything is different

By Laura Beaulier (MLC exchange)

This summer, I went to Australia for a month and stayed with my exchange student and her family during the holidays and accompanied her to school.

In Australia everything is different: the culture, the school (educational system, uniform, subjects, exams...), the way and the hours to eat...

I expected it to be very “American” but it was actually more like Europe in many ways. I also found that Australians were quite interested in the rest of the world (unlike United States); for example in the newspaper I was surprised to read precise information about the bicycles in Paris!

Australia is also a beautiful country with breathtaking landscapes. From the “Great Ocean Road” which runs along the south-west coast you have an amazing view of the ocean and the “twelve apostles” (twelve rocks separated from the coast by the erosion).

I also saw kangaroos and koalas very close by, they are really cute! I visited a zoo with only Australian animals which was very nice.

I found this experience very interesting, exciting and rewarding and I would deeply recommend to anyone to go to Australia
