Life Down Under

I learned a lot of things about the Australian civilisation and lifestyle

By Laura Colignon (Coomoora Exchange)

During my three-week stay in Melbourne, I learned a lot of things about the Australian civilisation and lifestyle.

For example, we ate dinner every day at 4pm and then had supper at 10pm. It’s amazing to see how many fast foods they have; Mc Donald’s, KFC, Red Rooster, Subway...the list is very long. We could actually confuse them with the Americans.

The Australian school was really easy compared to the French one. We finished at 3 pm every day and barely had any homework. We had lots of spare time in the afternoon, so we spent a few afternoons shopping! The shopping centres are quite similar to ours although we don’t have as many “surf shops” (Quicksilver, Roxy...) as they do.

If I could go back, as I certainly will, I would rather go during their summer in December, when it is warmer, and try surfing. My host family is another reason I would like to return. In three weeks, I had time to become close to my new and very caring family.
