On Wednesday April 9, 2008 three primary classes visited the Quai Branly museum to learn more about Native American art and culture.
After a quicker than expected coach ride, Helen Mangani’s P6, Connie Montrella’s P5 and Cynthia Kaiser’s P2 classes arrived at the museum and had time to explore the beautiful gardens before taking a guided tour in English of the Americas section of the exhibits.
The trip is part of a unit on Native Americans that the three classes are working on this term and gave the students a chance to see actual art works and artifacts from everyday life. Descriptions and stories from the museum guides added to the experience.
While the younger children were impressed with the feather headdresses, bear claw necklaces and masks with pyrana teeth, the older students were able to gather information for reports they will be writing on different aspects of Indian life.
Many thanks to the parent volunteers who accompanied us on the trip.
