English Integrated Class goes Walkabout

By Jenny Bennitt (teacher) and Gabrielle Voiriot (pupil)

At the zebra crossingOn two Monday afternoons at the end of November, the ten pupils from the Integrated English class joined the pupils in their French class on a short walk in the immediate vicinity of Gambetta A school. Both groups were doing work on a map of the area, trying to locate specific places on the map as they walked around. This is not an easy task for seven year olds and Mme Ruchon and Mrs Bennitt had a lot of explaining and pointing to do. On the return to school, the class split and the children went to their respective French and English classrooms to draw the itinerary and write a brief description of the route.

Our walk around Sèvres By Gabrielle Voiriot P3I (Anglais Intégré)

We got out of the school and went right. Then we crossed a zebra crossing and went past the car park and then the Collège school. Next we past the roundabout and next we crossed a road. When we finished crossing the road we went past some shops. Then we turned right and went past a church and then we went under a bridge and on the other side of the bridge there was a gastation and behind there was the Town Hall. And then we crossed a third road and then we got back to school.

The Integrated Syllabus

Ready, steady, go!

The syllabus for the Integrated English class includes most of the French History, Geography and Science part of the CE1 programme, as well as Literacy skills in English. We do not always study these subjects at exactly the same time as the French class but we did coincide for this Geography project. The literacy focus was to write an accurate description of the event in the correct chronological order and to use link words such as ’next’, ’then’ ’secondly’ to join the text together.
