Classes in Sèvres and in Chaville

En allemand En français

At the collège level (11 to 15 year-olds), students have four hours per week of Language & Literature and two hours of History & Geography in English or in German in addition to following the French public school curriculum.

In addition to the language of their section english or german, students study a modern foreign language taught by the French public school teachers, >>

The six hours of SIS "inter" classes are included in the students’ weekly class schedule. They are taught by qualified and experienced SIS teachers who are all mother-tongue English or German speakers. Inter classes are limited to 20 students.

All other subjects (math, French, etc.) are taught by the French public school teachers who follow the curriculum set by the Minister of Education.

Classes are held at the Collège de Sèvres and at the Collège Jean Moulin in Chaville. Teaching conditions and admission criteria are identical for the two campuses.

In literature classes students study novels and other works from a variety of Anglophone or German-speaking countries, participate in theatrical productions and discover the many activities on offer at the SIS: Anglophone Section or German Section. (See also the International libraries.)

...and two hours of History-Geography

The history and geography programs are taught in parallel in the International and French classes. This complementarity helps to foster students’ curiosity about transcultural issues in history-geography.

Foreign language options: German, Spanish, Latin, Greek, Italian, Japanese

In addition to the language of their section, students study a modern foreign language (LV2) taught by the French public school teachers.

  • The information in the following table applies to new students admitted to the SIS. Students already in the Sections will continue studying the same language as before. It is impossible for Inter students to change foreign languages.
  • New students joining the Sèvres campus who have not already begun Spanish in 6ème, must start during the summer to catch up with the class

FLE - French as a foreign language

For students arriving from abroad who do not speak French at all: in 6e and 5e (the first two years of Middle School) a specially adapted timetable with French as a foreign language (FLE) in Collège de Sèvres and hours for individual work will allow them to adapt to the French school system with greater ease. This set up exists for students in the final two years of Middle School too (3e and 4e) in Collège de Sèvres, but we recommend that at this level students speak a minimum of French upon arrival.

Should a SIS family have to move to another country, the standard of teaching in the Sections allows students to integrate other educational systems without difficulty.

The International option Brevet exam

In 3e students take the International option Brevet exam in the language of their Section.

The English Section classes also sit the Cambridge First Certificate Examination with excellent results.
