Cakes, Activities, Songs and a Wet Headmaster.

The anglophone primary summer fair, on Wednesday 14th June, with it’s variety of games, class performances and stands, had the added vocation this year of aiding others. Thanks to the P6 ‘muffins for puffins’ stand, 304.52 € was collected, through the sale of cakes, cookies and muffins, to help protect the species from extinction. The children of P6 had worked hard creating posters and circulating the classes the previous week, giving some carefully prepared presentations. Learning, leading to fun. What a great concept ! P4 classes had been reading ‘Listen To the Wind’, a moving true story of building a school in Afghanistan. They decided to help the related association ‘Pennies For Peace’ by placing a ‘spare coins’ box on their stand. 250€ in small change was collected by the end of the morning, worth, as one girl pointed out, «A whole lotta pencils»!

Fundraiser of the year prize, however, must surely go to Mr Tidmarsh for his courage and sang froid in the face of adversity. Facing a sinuous queue of pupils and a bowl of wet sponges he let himself get pelted (and there were some deft-handed sponge wielders!) in the aim of raising funds for the Red Cross.

Stands were available for all kinds of activities ; making masks, flags and greetings cards, writing heiroglyphics, face painting, crazy races and a cake walk. SIS T shirts were a new addition to the sales stands. WH Smiths, now familiar to the fair, were on hand to supply the holiday reading material. Even the sun decided to join in after a week of mixed weather.

Probably felt sorry for Mr Tidmarsh…..
