Head of English and Drama English International Section Lycée de Sèvres (JP Vernant) PARIS (France)

Required for September 2012, the Head of English and Drama at SIS will lead forward a successful, confident team of 8 other English teachers on 3 sites. (S)he must have excellent leadership skills and be able to plan for and manage change as the department expands (probably) to new sites. In co-ordination with the Director of SIS, (s)he is responsible for recruiting, inducting, managing and evaluating within the department, as well as liaising with the History-Geography Department, the German Section and the French administrations.

The successful candidate will speak good French and will have a proven track record as an excellent teacher and specialist in English literature and language from 11-18 (14 hours’ teaching), with knowledge of the British exam system (GCSEs and A Levels), as well as the OIB and the French Baccalaureate. Good knowledge of British universities and UCAS would be welcome.

(S)he will have overall responsibility for the planning, the delivery and the evaluation of the curriculum throughout the schools. As Head of Drama, which has an important place in the Section, there is responsibility for overseeing and supporting the flagship drama projects both in Lower and Upper Schools. Responsibility also for overseeing testing, exams (Brevet, ESOL, IGCSEs, and OIB).

Finally, (s)he will represent and promote the Section pedagogically within the wider OIB and educational community in France and beyond. This is an exciting and demanding post, which demands expertise, diplomacy, adaptability and a whole-hearted commitment to bicultural education.

Salary in accordance with the established grid.

Sections Internationales de Sèvres is an association-run English and German speaking International section within the French state system. The English and German sections work in parallel. The German section starts at age 4, the English at age 6, both going through to age 18

Last year, SIS celebrated its 50th anniversary. It was founded in 1960 by UNESCO and the Education National and has maintained close links with the Centre International d’Etudes Pédagogiques in Sèvres.

Supply teachers for Primary

Supply teachers for Collège and Lycée

  • SIS are looking for experienced and trained teachers of English Language and Literature (mother tongue English), who would be available (sometimes at short notice) to do teacher replacement hours and take classes when teachers are away.

Good rates of pay available. This would appeal to someone used to working with lively, intelligent teenagers who has hours free during the day.
