International Option Brevet

Tests in the language of the Section

En français Auf Deustch

The Brevet exam (DNB, Diplôme National de Brevet) was significantly modified during the 2012 summer holidays. Details can be found at BO du 23 Août 2012.

At the end of troisième (the final year of middle school), all SIS students take the nationally administered Brevet exam. This exam is optional, but we highly recommend that all students take it, as it is a first opportunity for students to experience real examination conditions before the Baccalaureate exam.

Students may also sit two additional oral examinations in English: language and history/geography. Each of these exams has a coefficient of 1. Students are awarded the "International Option" DNB if they pass the DNB and if their grades in the oral exams are greater than or equal to 10. [1]

[1] The "International Option" DNB is awarded to candidates in troisième at a collège with international sections who have satisfied the following requirements:

  • passing grades in the DNB exams
  • passing grades in two oral exams, one in the language of the section, the other in a non-linguistic discipline; each exam has a coefficient of 1.

Additional information pertaining to the two grades from the two oral exams in relation to the DNB

  • Candidates sitting the international option DNB must score a total of 210 points out of 420 (this includes the 2 grades from the oral exams) to obtain the DNB;
  • if the student obtains a passing grade for the DNB, and each of the two grades for the aforementioned oral exams is equal to or greater than 10/20, then candidates will have the mention "section internationale... langue de la section" included on their diploma.
  • if they fail to score at least 10/20 on one or both of the exams, they will obtain a "regular" DNB but they will not be given the mention "section internationale";
  • if they score less than 210 points out of 420, but more than 190 points out of 380 (the point total for a regular DNB which does not include the scores for the oral exams), they will obtain a "regular" DNB.
