Story Competition for 6èmes and 5èmes

Why not show us your writing talents ?

Continue the story prompt below and develop it in an imaginative and interesting way.

"James tugged at his friend’s hand and said: "Come on, come on". But X hung back. He (or she) was still afraid.
James looked up and down the narrow street in the evening light and..."

You can supply the friend’s name and change James to a girl if you prefer.

If you don’t feel inspired by this beginning, write a story using the following elements:

  • Setting: a bank at midnight in Mexico City.
  • Characters: Chico Pablez, Henriquo Gonzalez, Conchita Lopez.

Your name is Chico Pablez. What are you doing in a bank at midnight in Mexico City?
Your story must answer this question. Be sure to include the two other characters in your tale.

Rules and Guidelines

There will be a prize (vouchers for books) for each of the following categories:

  • 6ème: English First Language
  • 6ème: English Second Language
  • 5ème: English First Language
  • 5ème: English Second Language

Note:

  • English First Language means either that you are a native English speaker or, for the purposes of this competition, that your teacher considers your English to be of a standard which is comparable with native English.
  • English Second Language means, for the purposes of this competition, that your English is not yet comparable with that of a native speaker.

Your English teacher will decide which category your story will be submitted for.

The winning stories will be published on the SIS website and there will be a prize-giving ceremony, with photographs taken for the magazine ( Inter-Sections)

Writing guidelines

  • Stories must be between 300 - 600 words and typed. We will ask you and your parents to sign that the work is all your own (including the typing).
  • Stories with interesting ,plausible plots and credible characters will be preferred, where we can imagine people and places. So, pay attention to both description and dialogue.
  • Stories must be written in paragraphs and care must be taken with punctuation and spelling.
  • Give your story a title and underline it.

All stories will be carefully considered and will be evaluated by a panel of judges.
